My Story
Eric Cestero - El Faro
Eric Cestero is a Puerto Rican software developer, songwriter, and ASCAP-registered artist who has transformed personal trauma into a beacon of hope for the global LGBTQ+ community. With 25 years of experience in software development, Eric has pioneered the intersection of technology and social justice through music.
Born into adversity, Eric survived childhood abuse, homelessness after coming out, and a battle with severe stuttering that once silenced his voice. Rather than let these experiences define his limitations, he channeled them into purpose—becoming "El Faro" (The Lighthouse) for those lost in similar darkness.
In 2025, Eric created history's largest multilingual LGBTQ+ music catalog, featuring 347,953 original songs across 41 languages. This unprecedented collection fills a critical void in global representation, providing authentic voices in languages and cultures that previously had zero LGBTQ+ musical content. His work spans traditional Latin genres like bachata, reggaeton, and salsa, while also embracing the authentic musical styles of each represented culture.
Eric's mission extends beyond music creation—it's about healing and suicide prevention. His songs tackle the difficult topics that many songwriters and artists fear to address: family rejection, religious trauma, internalized homophobia, and the journey from survival to self-acceptance. Each composition serves as both artistic expression and lifeline for LGBTQ+ individuals worldwide.
